Fighter Sponsorship at Tiger Eye
Tiger Eye Muay Thai & MMA is open to sponsoring a small number of Muay Thai, kickboxing and MMA athletes who want to train, compete and develop their careers in Bangkok.
Sponsorship can mean different things depending on the athlete. It may be as simple as discounted training, or it may include free training, accommodation, meals, visa assistance and, in exceptional cases, flights to Thailand.
But this is not a free training holiday.
If we sponsor you, we are investing our money, time, facilities, connections and reputation in you. In return, we expect you to invest yourself in Tiger Eye.
We are looking for people we actually want to build something with.
Life at Tiger Eye
Why Tiger Eye?
Tiger Eye offers something unusual in Bangkok.
We have one of the larger training spaces in the city, but instead of being surrounded entirely by concrete, we’ve built a quieter, greener environment. We have outdoor space, trees, gardens and animals alongside our training areas.
You still have Bangkok outside the gate. On your days off, you can explore the city, go out, eat, shop and experience Thailand. Then you can come back somewhere quieter to train, recover and sleep.
We want the experience here to be broader than fighting.
Training obviously comes first, but we also want our sponsored athletes to spend some time outdoors, contribute to the environment around them and make an attempt to participate in things like meditation.
You don’t need to arrive as a monk, gardener or meditation expert. You simply need to be open to the experience.
For the right person, Tiger Eye can become much more than a place to train.

Who Are We Looking For?
We are primarily looking for fighters between 125 and 170 lb (approximately 57–77 kg).
That isn’t because we aren’t interested in heavier athletes. It’s simply where we currently have the greatest concentration of training partners.
Athletes above 170 lb are welcome to apply. However, sponsorship may depend upon our ability to provide appropriate training partners. In some cases, that may mean sponsoring two or more larger athletes at the same time.
There is no preference between male and female fighters.
However, the environment matters. We don’t want to bring one female sponsored athlete into a residential program surrounded entirely by male sponsored fighters. Depending on who is currently staying and training with us, there may therefore be periods when we prioritize additional female or male applicants.
Our accommodation will have separate male and female dormitory areas.
What Level of Fighter Do You Need to Be?
Muay Thai & Kickboxing
As a general guideline, we are looking for fighters with at least five amateur fights or comparable competitive experience.
Five fights is not an absolute rule. Someone with less experience but obvious potential may still be considered.
However, fight footage is mandatory.
We need to see you compete.
Pad work, bag work and highlight reels are useful additional material, but they are not substitutes for footage of an actual fight.
If you cannot provide fight footage, please wait until you have some before applying.
MMA
For MMA sponsorship, we are particularly interested in athletes who already have a strong grappling foundation.
As a general benchmark, applicants should be at least a BJJ blue belt, with purple belt preferred. A wrestling background is an additional advantage.
There is a reason for this.
You’re coming to Thailand. Opportunities to develop high-level striking are everywhere. An MMA athlete arriving with an established grappling base gives us something particularly interesting to build upon.
If you’re currently a pure striker with little or no grappling experience and want to transition into MMA, our sponsorship program probably isn’t the appropriate fit for you at this stage.
Amateur or Professional?
Both.
You do not need to be a professional fighter to receive sponsorship.
In fact, one of the things that would give us the greatest satisfaction would be identifying the right athlete early, developing that person from the amateur ranks and eventually helping them become a professional world champion.
That’s a long road, and obviously there are no guarantees in fighting. But that’s the kind of relationship we’re interested in building.
We will also consider established professional and elite athletes. The terms of every sponsorship are ultimately at Tiger Eye’s discretion.

How Long Is the Sponsorship?
Generally, three months is the minimum commitment.
For substantial sponsorships, preference will be given to people interested in making Thailand a longer-term base.
That could mean six months, a year or potentially several years.
For suitable athletes, Tiger Eye can also assist with Thailand’s Destination Thailand Visa (DTV). Depending upon the sponsorship arrangement, our normal DTV assistance may be heavily discounted or included.

Longer is not automatically better. An exceptional athlete may bring enough value to justify a shorter arrangement. Every sponsorship is considered individually.
The first three months may also function as a probationary period. Sponsorship is dependent upon the athlete continuing to meet the standards agreed upon with Tiger Eye.
What Does Sponsorship Include?
There is no single Tiger Eye sponsorship package.
Depending on the athlete and the arrangement, support may include:
Discounted training
Free training
Shared accommodation
Meals or food provided at the gym
DTV/visa assistance
Fight management and matchmaking
Career development
Promotional support
Other living or training assistance
In exceptional cases, flights to Thailand
The more Tiger Eye invests in you, the more we will expect from you.
Someone who can fight, help lead a room, mentor beginners, assist coaches, promote the gym and take responsibility will naturally be considered differently from someone who simply wants somewhere free to train.
Living at the gym
Accommodation & Food
Accommodation for sponsored fighters is intentionally simple.
We are developing shared dormitory-style accommodation, with separate areas for men and women. Private rooms should not be expected.
Depending upon your sponsorship level, food may also be provided at the gym.
We currently have an on-site kitchen where food is prepared around 10:00 a.m. and remains available until it runs out.
If your idea of sponsorship is a private apartment, restaurant meals and somebody taking care of you, this probably isn’t the program you’re looking for.

This Is a Team, Not a Free Ride
Sponsored athletes aren’t customers.
You’re joining the team.
That means there will be times when you are expected to contribute outside your own training.
Maybe a beginner class is overwhelmed and a coach needs another experienced person to help.
Maybe the mats need cleaning.
Maybe something needs carrying.
Maybe there’s work to do in the garden.
Maybe a new fighter needs some guidance.
You help.
Nobody here is too important to pick something up, clean something or help someone less experienced.
Think of the environment as somewhere between a fight camp, boarding school, military camp and monastery.
If you’re looking for free accommodation and free food with no responsibilities attached, you’re looking for a homeless shelter, not a fighter sponsorship.
What Kind of Person Are We Looking For?
Your fight record matters.
Your character matters just as much.
We want athletes who are:
Coachable. Dependable. Disciplined. Respectful. Helpful. Able to live with other people. Willing to learn.
We also prefer athletes who have some stability outside fighting.
Being over 20 is preferred, although not an absolute requirement. Having completed university, developed a trade, established a career path or otherwise having some kind of backup plan is viewed positively.
We don’t believe someone should have to bet their entire future on becoming a professional fighter.
Sponsored athletes should also have some financial resources of their own. Even substantial sponsorship does not mean Tiger Eye becomes responsible for every personal expense you incur.
The Relationship Has to Work Both Ways
This part is important.
Tiger Eye isn’t purchasing an athlete’s contract and treating this as a purely transactional relationship.
If we’re going to invest substantially in somebody, we need to care about that person and believe in what they’re doing.
And we need to get along.
That means personality and temperament matter.
We’re potentially going to spend hundreds of hours together—training, traveling, preparing for fights, dealing with wins, losses, injuries and all of the other things that come with this business.
We are not paying to invite a problem into our gym.
The people in your corner
Who Will Be Working With Me?
Tiger Eye founder Bashir Ahmad has spent much of his adult life involved in the Asian MMA industry as a fighter, coach, promoter, manager and executive, including extensive involvement with ONE Championship.
But don’t simply take our word for it.
If you’re seriously considering moving across the world to train with us, do your due diligence on us too.
Ask around.
Speak to people who have been involved in MMA in Thailand and the region. Ask about Bashir. Ask about Tiger Eye. Talk to athletes who have trained here.
We will be investigating you before making a significant investment in you. You should investigate us too.
The relationship needs to make sense for both sides.

Questions & expectations
Will Tiger Eye Manage My Fighting Career?
For serious sponsored fighters, generally yes.
We aren’t interested only in providing a training facility. We want to help arrange fights, develop careers and create opportunities.
Tiger Eye may act as the athlete’s manager and receive an agreed percentage of fight purses.
The exact management relationship, purse percentage, responsibilities and other commercial terms will be negotiated separately and put into an appropriate agreement. Receiving sponsorship does not by itself create unspecified management terms.
This is the fight business, and we treat that side of the relationship seriously.
How Often Will I Fight?
For Muay Thai fighters, we generally want active competitors.
Assuming you are healthy and appropriate fights are available, sponsored Muay Thai fighters should normally expect to compete approximately once every one to two months at minimum.
MMA is different. Appropriate MMA opportunities occur less frequently, and preparation between fights may be longer.
Being based in Bangkok gives athletes access to fight opportunities ranging from developmental competition through higher-level professional events.
Tiger Eye also intends to host events of our own, creating additional competitive opportunities for members of the team.
Do I Have to Accept Fights?
If we’re investing in developing your fighting career, you should expect to fight.
We expect sponsored athletes to be willing to take appropriate opportunities arranged through the team.
That doesn’t mean blindly accepting every fight regardless of injury, weight, preparation or opponent. Communication between athlete, coaches and management is essential.
Can I Train at Other Gyms?
Potentially.
We’re not opposed to cross-training when there is a good reason for it.
There may be an athlete, coach or specialist somewhere else in Bangkok who provides exactly what you need at a particular point in your development. We may arrange for you to train there, or preferably invite appropriate athletes to Tiger Eye to work with you here.
What doesn’t work is Tiger Eye investing in bringing someone to Thailand only for that person to arrive and immediately start independently treating another gym as their primary training environment.
Talk to us.
Communication solves most of these issues.
What Are the Rules Outside Training?
If you’re living under Tiger Eye sponsorship, there are rules.
No drugs. No drinking as part of the residential sponsorship program.
You are here to train, fight, recover and develop.
Bangkok is outside the gate, and you’re welcome to experience Thailand during appropriate free time and rest days. But sponsorship comes with responsibilities.
You will be expected to follow the rules of the house, respect coaches and teammates, attend your required training, fulfill your responsibilities and behave in a way that doesn’t create problems for the team.
If that sounds overly restrictive to you, please don’t apply.
There are plenty of places in Thailand where you can buy a membership and do whatever you want outside training.
This isn’t that.
Do I Have to Meditate?
You don’t have to arrive as someone who meditates.
But you should be willing to try.
The same applies to gardening, spending time outdoors and participating in parts of Tiger Eye that don’t involve punching someone.
We’re trying to create well-rounded athletes and a particular kind of environment. We’re interested in people who are open to experiences outside their existing comfort zone.
Do I Need Money of My Own?
Yes.
Even if you receive one of our highest levels of support, you should arrive with some degree of financial stability.
Thailand’s visa requirements may themselves require applicants to demonstrate adequate finances, and unexpected expenses happen.
Tiger Eye may assist athletes when circumstances justify it, but we are not assuming unlimited financial responsibility for sponsored athletes.
What About Medical Expenses and Insurance?
You are responsible for obtaining appropriate medical or travel insurance.
Combat sports involve injuries. Tiger Eye may choose to help an athlete with medical expenses in particular circumstances, but unless specifically agreed otherwise, Tiger Eye is under no obligation to cover your medical expenses.
Any significant existing injuries or medical issues relevant to your ability to train and compete must be disclosed during the application process.
What Happens If It Doesn’t Work Out?
Sponsorship is a relationship, not an entitlement.
The initial three-month period may serve as a probationary period.
Failure to train consistently, breaking house rules, drug or alcohol use, serious behavioral problems, dishonesty, failure to fulfill agreed promotional or team responsibilities, or simply demonstrating that the arrangement isn’t workable can result in sponsorship being reduced or terminated according to the applicable sponsorship agreement.
Likewise, we want athletes to communicate with us if the arrangement isn’t working for them.
What Are My Chances of Being Selected?
That depends entirely on what you bring.
We’re looking at the complete person:
Fighting ability. Potential. Grappling or wrestling background. Experience. Age. Weight. Character. Coachability. Leadership. Education and life stability. Social-media reach. Ability to help the team. Financial stability. Length of commitment.
Not everyone needs to be exceptional in every category.
Someone might be an outstanding fighter with almost no social-media presence.
Someone else might be an inexperienced fighter who is an exceptional wrestler.
Someone might be a natural leader who can contribute tremendously to the gym.
And occasionally someone may have an audience large enough that a promotional sponsorship makes sense even if they don’t meet our normal competitive criteria.
We look at the complete picture.

Ready to Apply?
Before submitting the application, ask yourself three questions:
Why should Tiger Eye invest in me?
What am I going to contribute to Tiger Eye and my teammates in return?
Where do I realistically want my fighting career to be three years from now?
If you’ve got good answers, we’d like to hear them.
And remember: fight footage is mandatory for fighter sponsorship applications.
The application takes around 20–30 minutes. Have your fight footage links ready before you start.
