Tiger Eye MMA

It is one of the most common questions we receive from DTV holders who applied through the Soft Power route: “My training package has ended. Do I need to enrol in another one to keep my visa valid?”

The short answer is no. But as with most things related to Thai immigration, the longer answer is worth understanding properly.

Your Visa Stays Valid Regardless of Your Package

The Destination Thailand Visa is valid for five years from the date of issue. Once your DTV is issued, it is valid for five years. You just need to exit every 180 days and re-enter; no extra course is required.

Your training package, whether three, six, nine, or twelve months, is what Tiger Eye provides to support your visa application. It is the documentation that goes to the embassy. Once your DTV is approved, the visa operates entirely independently of your training enrolment. There is no legal requirement to remain continuously enrolled in a Muay Thai programme for the full five-year validity period.

However, Keep This in Mind

While there is no formal requirement, immigration can ask about your purpose of stay if an officer questions you, particularly at the point of re-entry. Based on experience across the industry, students have not generally been asked by immigration to show ongoing course attendance after their initial training package has ended. That said, as our recent experience with an immigration officer calling our gym demonstrates, checks do happen.

If you applied with a Muay Thai gym enrolment, immigration can technically ask to see proof you are still training when you extend your stay in-country. In practice, this is rarely checked, but it is wise to have something ready.

What Most DTV Holders Do

In our experience, DTV holders fall into one of three groups after their package ends.

Many continue training at Tiger Eye on a regular monthly membership because they genuinely enjoy it. The gym becomes part of their lifestyle in Bangkok, and the DTV simply gave them the structure to get started.

Others train more casually, dropping in for classes occasionally, maintaining a loose connection to the gym without a formal package.

A smaller number stop training altogether. While this is technically permissible, we do not recommend it for one practical reason: if an immigration officer ever asks about your qualifying activity at re-entry or during an in-country extension, having a genuine and demonstrable connection to Muay Thai is always in your interest.

One Practical Advantage of Muay Thai

One advantage of applying under the Muay Thai Soft Power category is that it is completely normal for someone to continue practising Muay Thai for many years, unlike categories such as cooking school or medical treatment. By continuing Muay Thai training from time to time, you not only stay fit but also have credible and natural evidence to show immigration if they ever ask why you are in Thailand.

The Simple Recommendation

When your package ends, you do not need to purchase another DTV package. Your visa remains valid. But staying loosely connected to Tiger Eye, through occasional training, a monthly membership, or simply keeping your training history on record, is a sensible precaution that costs little and protects you in the unlikely event of an immigration query.
